ECOSENS Scientific Event: Powering the Future Responsibly: Assessing the Sustainability of Nuclear Energy

Nov 12, 2024 | news

The short summary report from first ECOSENS Scientific Event held during RICOMET 2023 addressed the sustainability assessment methodology based also on societal perspective of Europe’s future energy system that includes advanced and innovative technologies including nuclear. The core part of Scientific Event was panel discussion with different representatives from research, organised local communities and NGOs.

The discussion emphasized the need for an inclusive and comprehensive approach to sustainability assessments. Participants acknowledged the complex, multidimensional nature of energy planning and advocated for scenario-based assessments that reflect the long-term impacts of energy choices on society, environment, and economy. Ultimately, the panellists agreed that sustainability assessments are both necessary and inherently political, and that the process should involve transparent, evidence-based, and democratic engagement with all stakeholders.
