Economic and Social Considerations for the Future of Nuclear Energy in Society

The first ECOSENS Scientific Event entitled “Powering the Future Responsibly: Assessing the Sustainability of Nuclear Energy” was held on August 29 2023 in Dessel, Belgium back to back with RICOMET conference. It focused on the ECOSENS sustainability assessment methodology integrating a societal perspective on Europe’s future energy system that includes advanced and innovative technologies including nuclear. The event was divided in three parts, and covered presentation of ECOSENS project and its progress in the first year, panel discussion to address the issues important for sustainability assessment with representatives from industry, members of organised local committees, researchers and civil society representatives, and debate the societal and technological assumptions used for the ECOSENS 2050 energy demand scenario. The basic documents supported the event are available at the ECOSENS website. The event was attended by more than 30 participants in person, but also online contributors. The discussion from scientific event will be testified in particular report.
